Locals have flocked to a family fun day at Devine Communities' new Mt Barker community, The Summit, accounting for a clear majority of the 97 families who came along.

The event held on Sunday, March 15, from 11am-3pm featured a range of family activities including pony rides, face painting, a jumping castle and a free BBQ provided by the Mt Barker Rotary Club.

Attendees who registered also went into a lucky draw to win an Apple Ipod, which was won by Mt Barker resident Dianna Thompson.

Devine SA General Manager Steve Weightman said he was excited by the strong local response to the event which gave Devine a chance to showcase its plans for the $70 million estate.

"I love Family Fun Days because they are a great way of introducing potential home owners to our estates in a way that every member of the family can enjoy," Mr Weightman said.

"Families that came down had a great time but I believe they also appreciated why The Summit would be such a great place to live."

Mr Weightman said most of the attendees at the event had been from Mt Barker although there were also some families who were considering moving to the community.

Devine recently released the first stage at The Summit, which offers the largest homesites of any new estate in the area.

Stage 1 of the estate is the first of four scheduled for release over the next two years and includes 61 lots ranging in size from 600sqm to 1400sqm and starting at $175,000.

When completed in 2011, The Summit will include 192 lots and be home to approximately 500 people. The 18-hectare estate located on Sims Road and Hartman Road, adjacent to the Mt Barker Golf Course and the Mt Barker Waldorf School, will include three large reserves with 2.4 ha of open space.

The community has been designed to protect the existing natural environment and includes on-site stormwater management to avoid run off into the surrounding area as well as a number of community parks.

The Summit is within easy reach of primary schools and high schools, cinema, retail and convenience shopping and within a 5-minute drive of the Mt Barker Town Centre.
