More than 200 trees and shrubs will be planted by local students in Arndell as part of an Environmental Day hosted by Devine on Thursday.

Leading developer Devine has invited students from Truganina South Primary School to plant trees at Skeleton Creek Reserve at its popular 2012 UDIA award winning Arndell community at 9am.

Devine Victoria General Manager Neil Anderson said the Environment Day was about fostering strong community spirit and an appreciation of the environment.

“Devine is committed to building communities that are respectful of the environment.  Just like at Arndell, we aim to create landscapes that feature indigenous plants and shrubs, are visually exciting and blend in harmoniously with the existing surroundings.

“We hope to share some of our knowledge with local students and encourage them to take an active interest in their environment, work together as a team, and become a proactive member of the community.”

Prior to the event, Devine will hold a 30 minute presentation at the school to discuss the plants chosen for the tree planting, as well as local wildlife habitats.

Trees and shrubs chosen include natives like the Black Wattle, Blackwood, River Redgum, Hedge Wattle, Berry Saltbush, Sweet Bursaria and the Tree Violet.

Located 23km southwest of the Melbourne CBD, Arndell is located in the City of Wyndham, one of the fastest growing local government areas in Melbourne.

The 54 hectare community provides a home for 432 families and provides an outstanding sports precinct including the community centre and sports pavilion, including soccer fields, cricket pitches and other sporting facilities.

Arndell has been designed to encourage a healthy outdoor lifestyle with 40 per cent of the estate dedicated to parkland and open spaces.

The estate integrates with and celebrates the environmental values of Skeleton Creek and includes extensive open space areas integrated with the Creek and the Federation Trail.

Arndell is well placed to take advantage of excellent road and rail infrastructure in the area, including the Princes Freeway, Hoppers Crossing Railway Station and extensive bus links.
