PRIME Minister Julia Gillard officially opened the Arndell Park Community Centre on Friday, marking a major milestone in the growth of Devine’s Arndell community at Truganina.
The Prime Minster was accompanied by Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty at the opening of the centre at 29-49 Federation Boulevard, Truganina.
The centre features community spaces for classes, functions, meetings, recreation activities and events. Facilities also include community rooms, a computer room, a meeting/consulting room, fully equipment kitchen, small BBQ area, disabled facilities and a baby change area.
Devine Victoria General Manager Neil Anderson said it was a momentous day for Arndell.
"Over the past few years, it's been fantastic to see Arndell become a thriving, vibrant, family-friendly community with more than 430 families.”
"The Arndell Park Community Park is the icing on the cake, encouraging community interaction and acting as a central meeting point for residents.
"It was a pleasure to welcome the Prime Minister to Arndell to open this wonderful facility. We look forward to it providing enjoyment to our residents for generations to come."
Located 23km southwest of the Melbourne CBD, Arndell is located in the City of Wyndham, one of the fastest growing local government areas in Melbourne.
The 54 hectare community provides a home for 432 families and provides an outstanding sports precinct including the community centre and sports pavilion, including soccer fields, cricket pitches and other sporting facilities.
Arndell has been designed to encourage a healthy outdoor lifestyle with 40 per cent of the community dedicated to parkland and open spaces. The community celebrates the environmental values of Skeleton Creek and includes extensive open space areas integrated with the Creek and the Federation Trail.
Arndell is well placed to take advantage of excellent road and rail infrastructure in the area, including the Princes Freeway, Hoppers Crossing Railway Station and extensive bus links.
